The best part of ordinary is when you stop, take a closer look and realise just how truly amazing the ordinary really is.
About mv I am 41 and lucky to have a fantastic wife and 3 kids who give my life purpose and make it fun too. To pay the bills I am a Software Consultant and have been for the past (mostly enjoyable) 16 years.
I have a love of books, sport, heuristics, science, history, video games and music and try to combine them whenever possible. |
about the site |
Reading "Life Ascending" back in 2011 I came to the chapter on Photosynthesis . The topic I had found most boring at school was transformed by the skill and enthusiasm of Nick Lane. It was like seeing the most ordinary, what we take for granted, in a totally new brightness of colour and it felt great!
This is the power of the written word in the most expert of hands. When I decided I want to build a place to enjoy and help me remember the books I have read it was these WOW moments that I had most in mind. On a more personal level The Best Part of Ordinary is also a reminder that life is an amazing treasure. I am incredibly grateful to be able to enjoy it. I am unlikely to make a massive difference to the world at large but like everyone else, together our positive action can shape society and the challenges facing our climate. |
